Questions that come up once
interest gets serious.
Answers to the specific questions buyers, legal reviewers, and operators ask that aren't covered on our other pages.
What is usually the first project?
Most first engagements are a knowledge assistant — document retrieval against internal files using a private LLM. It is the easiest to scope, fastest to deploy, and simplest to get approved internally.
What models are used?
Open-weight models (not proprietary APIs like OpenAI or Anthropic). The client receives the model weights and configuration as part of the deliverable. No vendor lock-in, no ongoing licence fees to keep the system running.
What happens if the engagement ends?
The client retains the deployed system, hardware (if on-premise), documentation, runbook, and model artifacts. AKYB deletes all client data within 5 business days and provides a written destruction certificate.
Can every deployment avoid CLOUD Act exposure?
On-premise and client-infrastructure deployments can. Dedicated cloud deployments depend on the provider and processing chain — AKYB is explicit about the tradeoffs during Discovery so your legal team can evaluate.
What happens if scope changes mid-project?
Changes outside the agreed scope trigger a written change order with a separate quote before additional work proceeds. No surprise invoices.
Does AKYB carry professional liability insurance?
Yes. E&O insurance, NDA before any scoping discussion, and Data Processing Agreement included with every engagement. Certificate of insurance available during contract review.
Who owns the fine-tuned model?
If AKYB fine-tunes a model on your data, the resulting model weights and adapter files are delivered to you as part of the project. AKYB does not retain copies after the engagement ends.
Can AKYB support Alberta healthcare privacy reviews?
Yes. For Alberta healthcare engagements, AKYB provides PIA support documentation and deployment architecture evidence to support the client's HIA review process. Final legal interpretation remains the client's responsibility.
